Changes in Data Protection Law come into force on 25th May 2018 and we have taken this opportunity to inform members, students, and parents how we collect and process their data and also to obtain consent to receive information from us in relation to Mayo Concert Orchestra, Castlebar Concert Band, Mayo Youth Orchestra, and our Saturday music lessons.

Our Promise

At Mayo Concert Orchestra, we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our partners, supporters and staff. In particular, we want it to be clear that we do not sell or trade email lists or any other personal data with other organisations. In this Privacy Policy, we have provided information on when and why we collect personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure.

How we collect personal information:

We collect personal information directly from members, students or parents, when they complete a form (via paper or online) or provide details by phone.

The personal information we collect:

  • Personal identifiers such as name;
  • Contact details including postal address, email and telephone number;
  • Financial information such as membership dues, payment for lessons, deposits for instruments;
  • Activity-related information such as which instrument you play in, performing groups you belong to, who your teacher is;

Sensitive Personal Data

Some information is recognised as ‘sensitive personal data’. This includes, but is not limited to, information which reveals religious beliefs, health issues, race or ethnic origin. Mayo Concert Orchestra will always treat any sensitive personal data we process with the greatest care and process the information in accordance with Data Protection legislation.

Why we collect your personal information

We collect personal information to:

  • keep members, students, and parents informed about our organisation's activities including rehearsals, concerts, lessons, and special events such as fundraisers;
  • monitor and assess the quality of our services;
  • process membership dues, lesson fees, and instrument rentals;
  • fulfil our objectives of supporting our musical groups;
  • comply with the law regarding data sharing.

We do not share personal information with others except as described in this notice.

Communication Permissions

We want to keep you informed about the varied musical activities taking place across our organisation. This includes sending information about the groups and/or lessons that you take part in regularly as well as other information of relevance to all members, parents, and students.

How long we keep data

We hold personal data as long as you remain associated with one or more of our activities.

Who we share personal information with

We may share personal information with trusted third parties where it is necessary to provide products or services to members, parents, and students or where they are contracted to develop or maintain our systems.

Requesting access to your personal data

Under Data Protection legislation, you have the right to request access to information about you that we hold. To make a request for your personal information, contact the Data Protection Compliance Manager.

You also have the right to:

  • object to processing of personal data that is likely to cause, or is causing, damage or distress;
  • prevent processing for the purpose of direct marketing;
  • object to decisions being taken by automated means;
  • in certain circumstances, have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or
    destroyed; and
  • claim compensation for damages caused by a breach of the Data Protection regulations.
