MCO weekly rehearsal
Mayo Concert
Orchestra was set up in 1995 under the baton of George Lee (Musical Director). That same year the orchestra
had its inaugural concert and an international tour to France (featured on the "France 3" TV station). [More about History]
In addition to its own annual concert, MCO regularly plays at community and charity events. The orchestra's repertoire includes classical favourites, themes from musicals, arrangements of traditional Irish tunes, and sacred music. An
outreach programme for primary schools, called Classroom Cacophonies, has been running since 2000. [More about Community Links]
MCO has around forty
members of all ages who come from throughout Mayo and
beyond. Each year we also welcome musicians who are passing through Mayo on short-term contracts or student exchanges. Musicians who are interested in joining should contact us. Rehearsals take place every Wednesday night during the school year in St. Patrick’s NS, Castlebar. [More about Membership]
The orchestra is
currently involved in establishing a permanent building in which individual and
group tuition can take place, as well as weekly practice for the youth and
senior orchestras.
